If you are a BSNL broadband user, chances are that you are
facing frequent DNS issues. Their DNS servers are just unresponsive. The
look up takes a long duration and many times just time out. The
solution? There is small hack on BSNL for this. Use third party DNS
servers instead of BSNL DNS servers or run your own one like djbdns. The easiest options is to use OpenDNS. Just reconfigure your network to use the following DNS servers:
208.67.222.222
208.67.220.220
Detailed instructions specific to operating system or your BSNL modem
are available in the OpenDNS website itself. After I reconfigured my
BSNL modem to use the above 2 IP addresses, my DNS problems just
vanished! Other ‘freebies’ that come with OpenDNS are phishing
filters and automatic URL correction. Even if your service provider’s
DNS servers are working fine, you can still use OpenDNS just for these
two special features.After you hack BSNL DNS servers, you will see a
noticeable improvement in your broadband speed.

BSNL had earlier announced its plan to offer
Unlimited Free Night Calling on its landline phones.
But was only available for landline plans and combo broadband plan
users were left out. BSNL has now decided to offer Unlimited Free Night
Calling to broadband combo plan users.
All major BSNL Landline plans and broadband combo plan subscribers
can make unlimited calls to both Landline and mobile phone of any
network within the country between the hours of 9PM and 7AM. This
facility will be available to BSNL subscribers starting 01-05-2015.

BSNL already offer free WiFi services at major Ghats of Varanasi and
other locations in India. BSNL has now revised its free WiFi plans
across PAN India offering more free minutes of WiFi usage.
BSNL has revised existing 20 minutes of free WiFi usage and now offer 30 minutes free WiFi a day, maximum 3 times a month.
BSNL is already in process of rolling out its WiFi hotspots at major locations across the country. Airtel – Vodafone Backed Firefly had launched its free WiFi service on Supreme Court Premises yesterday.
BSNL has already declared that it will be investing Rs. 7000 crore in
setting up integrated 3G, 4G wifi hotspots across the country over the
next 3 years. In south zone BSNL has awarded contract to QuadGen
Wireless Solutions Pvt Ltd for setting up and operate Wi- Fi hotspots at
public places in South zone.
BSNL has categorized WiFi hotspot into following 3 types
- Small Hotspot: Cafe, Lounge, Food court etc, - 2 Mbps(dedicated)
- Mid Size Hotspot: Malls, IT Parks, Resorts, Hospitals etc – 4 Mbps(dedicated)
- Large Hotspot: Campus, Very large mall, uncovered broadband semi urban/rural areas – 10 Mbps(dedicated)

Domestic handset maker Micromax today said it has partnered state-run telecom firm BSNL to offer free internet access on select devices in a bid to drive data usage in the country.
Under the partnership, BSNL will bundle free data usage of up to 2GB
per quarter for 12 months on smartphones, free voice calls (on net) on
feature phones and other freebies on purchase of Micromax tablet and
data cards.
The offer will be available on six Micromax devices
— X070, X088 (feature phones), P410i (tablet), MMX377G (datacard), A37
and A37B (smartphones).

The customer can select any one GSM Mobile number of his choicefrom the available numbers. On his/her selection of choice number (max. no 1) the customer will get an sms with a PIN of 7 Digits Preceeding with 'FANCY' which is Valid For 48 hrs only (i.e. Calendar date). The customer need to input the PIN received through SMS in the web site confirming the selection is over and taken.
