Tips to Prevent Aging and Make your Skin Glow

Aging is a major concern among most women. Every woman aspires to look beautiful and young all through her life. Excessive exposure to sunlight, lack of sleep, and relaxation, an unhealthy lifestyle and poor diet can all lead to premature aging like developing of wrinkles, fine lines, and dark spots. It is important to maintain a healthy body so that you can remain beautiful and healthy even during your old age. The following are a few tips to prevent aging and making your skin glow naturally.

Tip to Prevent Aging and Make your Skin Glow

Tip 1:

Getting enough sleep for 8-9 hours daily will help keep your body and skin in best shape. Sleep is also the best time to rejuvenate your skin. Whereas lack of sleep can lead to dark circles, puffy eyes and pale skin, so make sure you get enough sleep daily.

Tip 2:

Exercise is good for the entire body including the skin. Exercising improves blood circulation throughout the body, keeps away wrinkles, unclogs pores and helps nourish the skin.

Tip 3;

Eat healthy foods that are rich in vitamins and minerals such as berries, oranges, avocados, seafood, dark green veggies; these can help prevent signs of aging. These kinds of food also helps reduce wrinkles and acne formation, keeping your skin supple and glowing.

Tip 4:

Green tea is packed with antioxidants that help your skin look younger and healthier. It improves your skin complexion; hence drink 2-3 cups of green tea daily for a healthy and glowing skin.

Tip 5:

Exfoliating helps remove excess dirt, clogging pores and dead skin cells that can lead to early aging. Hence exfoliate regularly to keep your skin soft and healthy.

Tip 6:

Sunscreen protects your skin from the sun’s harmful ultra violet rays, and prevents your skin from signs of aging such as pigmentation, wrinkles and other skin conditions. Make sure you apply proper sunscreen before stepping out of the house.

Tip 7:

Lack of water in the body can lead to dehydration, which can cause premature aging. Drinking water can help you stay hydrated throughout the day and flushes out toxins that are present in the body. Drink 8-10 glasses of water every day for a naturally glowing skin.

Tip 8:

Nuts such as almonds, cashew nuts, pistachio, and walnuts are a rich source of vitamin E, minerals and essential fatty acids which help you build collagen in the skin and maintain your skin's elasticity. Take about 5-6 of these nuts early morning before breakfast for a healthy skin.

How to recover from Pimples and Acne - Beauty Tips

When hair, sebum and skin cells form a block and bacteria get to this we get eruptions called pimples. Some pores and oil glands get clogged and result in pimples. The recurrence of pimples is called acne Hormonal changes are another major cause. A pimple may occur in your face, scalp, tongue, cystic, lips, head or arms.

Eating chocolates or fried stuff will not make too much of a difference, but healthy eating - 3 servings a day of fruits and vegetables will help. We need to drink a lot of water, have meals with whole grains and greens to avoid constipation.

Some Don’ts:

Wash your hands frequently and try not to touch your face too often.

Keep your hair from falling on the face or forehead.

Avoid the use of make-up; try to let the pores breathe.

Don’t squeeze or pinch the pimples as the membrane gets ruptured and causes the sebum and bacteria spread.

Don’t wash your face more than twice because the more we wash the sebaceous glands become more active and produce more sebum.

Remedies:

Instead of soap use powder made from dried orange peels or use a paste of fresh orange or lemon peels.

Apply fresh Aloe Vera gel on the pimples, it will soothe and heal the pimples.

Apple cider is extremely powerful cure to clear the pimple scars as well as pimples. Mix ½ teaspoon in a cup of water. Apply gently on the entire affected area with cotton wool and leave overnight.

Garlic is an excellent cure for acne - A freshly sliced pod can be gently applied on the pimple or a juice of garlic can be used, and left on for at least ½ hour. Although this stinks it is a pretty effective method.

Using raw papaya is a splendid method; grated papaya can be squeezed through a muslin cloth and the juice can be used. The enzyme papain is very suitable.

The juice of mint leaves applied overnight for 2 weeks constantly will clear acne.

A blend of honey and limejuice can prove to help with constant usage.

Change your pillow cover every day so that the infection has no way of getting back to you.

Gently apply some ice on your face after a warm water bath so that the pores close.

These remedies can be used for pimples and acne on the face, neck and shoulders.

Women do get pimples with their menstrual cycles, which fade away on their own. Sometimes people inherit this dreaded ailment.

women find sexual intercourse very painful

  • Fortunately, sexual pleasure is not all about intercourse. Improving vaginal tone is something you should discuss with your doctor, who may have a remedy – possibly a hormonal cream. Don't be shy – you deserve to be helped.
  • There are many erotic possibilities that do not include intercourse, and will not cause you pain. You could make your sex life more sensual by trying different sounds (murmurs, mood-enhancing music, and even the fine art of erotic conversation), scents (candles, perfume and your own natural scent), tastes (try being creative with food and edible erotic items), as well as experimenting with different non-genital strokes and touches. There are many more erogenous zones in the body than the obvious!
  • If it appeals, work on improving your oral and manual skills to provide climactic pleasure for your husband (ask for feedback) and, if he doesn't know already, teach him what kind of non-penetrative pleasures bring you to orgasm. Provide details and guidance until he gets it right.
  • At the moment, sex is not something you look forward to. It should not be a chore, so change that.
  • And never put up with painful sex, not even to "please your husband" (he does not want to hurt you). Instead, begin to share your specific erotic desires with him and encourage him to do the same. You can have a fantastic sex life if you stop limiting yourselves by focusing on intercourse

Benefits of morning sex :: Morning sex improves mood and health

  • According to the research, adults who make love first thing in the morning apparently not only feel more upbeat for the rest of the day, but also benefit from a stronger immune system.
  • The study suggests that adults who begin their day this way are healthier and happier than those who simply opt for a cup of tea and some toast before heading out of the door.a
  • Not only does it make them less likely to catch a cold or flu, it can also improve the quality of their hair, skin, and nails.
  • Having sex in the morning releases the feel-good chemical oxytocin, which makes couples feel loving and bonded all day long -  the Daily Mail quoted Dr Debby Herbenick, an American research scientist and sex advice columnist, as saying.
  • Dr Herbenick, author of the book Because It Feels Good, added: "It makes you stronger and more beautiful too: Morning sex can strengthen your immune system for the day by enhancing your levels of IgA, an antibody that protects against infection.
  • And it releases chemicals that boost levels of oestrogen, which improves the tone and texture of your skin and hair.
  • Other studies suggest that the benefits do not end there. A study at Queens University in Belfast found that having sex three times a week could halve the risk of heart attack or stroke.
  • Research from Nottingham University also revealed that men who kept up a regular sex life in their 50s were also at lower risk of developing prostate cancer.

How to gain weight the right way: the 6 rules

GOLDEN RULE #1

Have the right perspective on weight gain.

Gaining just any weight is no good. Going from skinny to fat won’t make you look good.
You want to gain weight of the right composition. The extra weight must be mostly muscle if it’s to look good, and be healthy and functional.
To achieve that, you must exercise properly, and recuperate properly.

GOLDEN RULE #2

Be sure your sources of guidance on weight gain are appropriate for you.

What’s the proper way for you to exercise and recuperate?
Not the way a muscle mass monster does it.
Today’s muscle mass monsters are genetic freaks stuffed with anabolic drugs. The training that works for them won‘t work for you.
A much better approach is to find out how genetically normal, drug-free people build muscle. In the bodybuilding world, these people are often called “hardgainers.” But even hardgainers can make terrific progress when they train and recuperate properly.
When you look for nutritional guidance, be watchful of vested interests. Some exceptional weight-gain successes didn’t use any food supplements whatsoever.
Food supplements are not essential, but prudent use of some of them may be helpful.

GOLDEN RULE #3

Exercise in the right way to stimulate healthy weight gain.

Exercising in the wrong way is just as useless for stimulating healthy weight gain as not exercising at all.
Even if the volume and frequency of your training are fine, if you use the wrong exercises you won’t make much if any progress. Conversely, even the right exercises won’t help you much, if at all, if the volume and frequency of your training aren’t right.
But even the best exercises and the right volume and frequency of training won’t produce good results unless you use correct exercise technique and sufficient training intensity.
You must use the right exercises, correct exercise technique, sufficient intensity, and enough volume and frequency of training without overtraining. And you must strive to gradually increase your exercise poundages while always maintaining correct exercise technique.

GOLDEN RULE #4

Provide sufficient calories and nutrients for healthy weight gain.

Even proper training won’t yield good results unless it’s combined with sufficient nourishment. For the sake of your health, and to provide a rich supply of nutrients, stick to healthy foods.
Sufficient protein is essential, but so is sufficient healthy dietary fat. Even if your protein and caloric intake are sufficient, if you don’t have sufficient dietary fat you’re not going to grow much if any muscle. Consume about 30% of your caloric intake as healthy fats.
To increase your caloric intake, eat a larger overall volume of food, and choose foods that are more calorie dense. Some people prefer three large meals a day, others prefer three big meals and two or three small snacks, while others prefer six similar-sized meals.
Increase your food intake gradually, so that your digestive tract can cope without any discomfort.
But don’t increase your food intake to caloric surplus until you’re training hard enough to stimulate muscle growth. “Caloric surplus” means caloric intake in excess of what maintains your bodyweight, in order to permit weight gain. But make it just a slight surplus, so that the weight gain is mostly muscle.
Meal replacement drinks, milk shakes and smoothies can be convenient. As a teenager, my standard “protein shake” was whole milk with skim-milk powder. It was cheap, effective, and pleasant tasting.
Always choose foods that you can digest readily, in combinations that agree with you.

GOLDEN RULE #5

Provide enough sleep and recovery time to permit your body to grow.

Even if you train properly and supply sufficient nourishment, if you don’t provide enough sleep and overall rest between workouts, your body won’t be able to recover properly in order to build muscle and gain weight.
Get at least eight hours sleep each night when you’re in hard training, and minimize physically demanding activity outside of your gym workouts. Ideally, eliminate all physically demanding activities other than your workouts.

GOLDEN RULE #6

To gain weight, be a model of dedication and persistence.

Knowing what to do is one thing, but doing it consistently is something else.
Even the best training know-how is worthless unless fused with dedication to consistent action. But even dedication in abundance will be wasted if it’s combined with a poor training and recovery program.
If it’s time to train, then train you must regardless of the weather, what’s on TV, or whatever other potential distraction there may be.
When you work out, you must use correct exercise technique in every set, and train hard enough to stimulate growth. And you must build strength.
You must sleep enough each night. You must give your sleep sufficient priority so that you avoid distractions that would reduce your time asleep.
And you must meet your caloric and nutrient requirements each day.
Make each day count, and make each week a perfect example of training and recovery. If you do this, week after week, and month after month, you’ll make terrific progress.

A LEGENDARY PROGRAM FOR WEIGHT GAIN

The most famous workout routine for weight gain is the 20-rep squat program. When properly implemented it has a legendary reputation for effectiveness, even for the most difficult cases. It’s the program that accounted for most of my weight gain.
But it may also be the most misunderstood and misapplied workout routine. Many people try it without understanding how to implement it properly, and as a consequence they don’t make good progress.
Apply this workout routine properly, or not at all

How to create and build impressive Linkedin profile

We guide you on how to harness LinkedIn’s technical platform to get the best out of it.
How to create and build impressive Linkedin profile
LinkedIn is another one of those social media giants that has taken the web world by storm. It provides an exclusive platform for users to interact with each other in a professional environment and showcase their achievements, talents and interests. As such it’s an ideal forum for job seekers and head hunters. It also serves as a specialised profile building platform and enables users to maintain multiple levels of connections.
Off late there’ve been some amazing developments from LinkedIn giving users access to a multitude of features. This Tips & Tricks section is not a tutorial teaching you how to build a strong LinkedIn profile but it will guide you on how to harness LinkedIn’s technical platform to get the best out of it. Follow these nifty tricks and cheats for mastering LinkedIn.

Connecting professionally is what it’s all about

SEO your profile
The fact that you’re a LinkedIn user means that you’re out there to market yourself and your skills. As such you need to make your profile easier to find when searched for using a search engine. A useful tip is to include a certain keyword throughout your profile. Make sure that this keyword appears in your endorsements and recommendations as well. Once done, you can check and rate your profile against others with similar keyword by doing a search by people. This tip is hardly a LinkedIn-specific hack but is extremely useful and powerful.

Use Boolean search
The LinkedIn search bar has awesome support for Boolean search, which means that you can execute complex searches by combining Boolean operators (terms such as AND, OR, NOT). For example, if you want to search for a software engineer or architect you can search for ‘software AND Engineer OR Architect’ by combining the AND and OR Boolean operators. For exact matches, use quotation marks on either side of specific terms and use the NOT operator to exclude certain terms. E.g. “subject matter expert” NOT “technical writer”. This sort of search query allowance lets you look for extremely specific profiles or a largely generalised database of profiles by a smart combination of Boolean operators.

Reorder and rearrange headers
Don’t like the way your profile headers are arranged? Reorder them. Simply go to the Profile > Edit Profile and move your mouse pointer to the double-sided arrow at the extreme right of each header. Click and drag to rearrange the positions of the headers.

Build your resume
Linked in has a really nice built-in Resume Builder tool which can turn your profile into a resume that you can print, store and share as a .pdf file. To export your LinkedIn profile as a resume, go to http://resume.linkedinlabs.com/ and click on the “Create a new resume now” button. Grant access to the Resume Builder application. You’ll then be redirected to a page where your resume will be exported to a document type sheet. You can choose between various resume formats. After zeroing in on the desired format and content, click on the PDF/print option located at the end of the menu just above the sample document to save and download the resume as a .pdf file.

Optimise your profile to get pulled up in search results

You’re probably already aware of a similar feature within your LinkedIn profile where you also have the option of a quick .pdf download of your profile. However, that’s a plain Jane version compared to the template options you’ll get with Resume Builder.

Export contacts
LinkedIn enables you to have multiple levels of connections. As such it gets really important to organise contacts. You can export LinkedIn contacts to another contact or people management system. To do this, go to Network > Contacts > My Connections. Then scroll down and click on the bottom right option of Export connections. There’s an option to export contacts either as a .csv or .vcf file.

Remove Contacts tab
Deleting connections is not a really smooth procedure in LinkedIn. The remove connection page simply displays a list of contacts without pictures. For users with a large number of contacts it may become cumbersome to identify contacts without additional information. But thanks to a neat Greasemonkey script deleting connections becomes simple. Follow the instructions for installation at http://dgit.in/189ubY2 and install the plug-in from http://dgit.in/189usdD to enable a ‘Remove Contact’ link next to each profile.

Create map virtualisation
Although this tip doesn’t really utilise a LinkedIn-based service it relies on an official application called InMaps developed by LinkedIn employees for an experimental service (like Resume Builder) called LinkedIn Labs. InMaps is a beautiful tool that essentially creates a graph network linking together all your contacts with you and each other. It’s a stunning visualisation tool and you can easily zoom in on the map and see specific contacts and their connections. Clicking on a specific dot on the map will show the respective contact’s connection in the map and his/her details are displayed in the pane to the right. This is a handy tool when it comes to viewing connections of specific contacts and building databases. You can easily share the map with other contacts also. To use the service go to

Save searches
This might sound like an utterly useless thing to do but it is actually quite handy if you’re tailing a particular profile for a job or otherwise. A little known feature in LinkedIn allows you to save upto three searches and get email notifications if there are new profiles similar to the ones in your search query list.
Call it keeping an eye on the competiton or whatever but it quite useful if you happen to be in HR. Simply type your search query in the search toolbar at the top and click on the Save  option. Let’s suppose you’re looking for a mechanical engineering student who joined graduate school at MIT, you can simply type “Mechanical” AND “graduate” AND “MIT” in the search bar and save that search query. LinkedIn will send you alerts weekly or monthly regarding additions to the list.

Customise your LinkedIn profile URL and other profile settings
The official profile URL provided by LinkedIn hardly catches one’s eye. The URL has a set of confusing and unrelated numbers at the end and it would be really great if a user could obtain a cleaner and crisper URL instead. Fortunately you can. If you’re signed in at LinkedIn go to http://dgit.in/16iAqqu. In the tab titled ‘Your Public Profile URL‘ click on ‘Customise your public profile URL’. Enter a suitable URL in the box that appears and you’re set.
The same page is quite handy for changing the way your profile appears when searched for. You can choose the kind of information to display when googled! The page also provides a nifty option of creating a profile badge to display and promote your LinkedIn profile on other public forums associated with you. Choose from a variety of profile badge options by clicking on the “Create a profile badge” under the Profile Badges section.

View stats of LinkedIn groups
This option gives you an idea of the group dynamics in general which includes number of group members, activity and growth. You can view comprehensive infographics that cover demographic information, activity (discussions, jobs posted, comments and promotions) over a period of time and growth in number of members. This is quite an amazing feature if you’re wondering whether the group is the right match for you given your career aspirations. For example, if you’re at entry-level and the demographics show that a majority of the group members are at a senior level, this may not be the group for you yet. To access it go to the specific page under investigation. In the tab containing the name of the group click the ‘i’ button towards the extreme right. Click on ‘Group statistics’ in the menu box that appears.

Explore the demographics tab for a deeper insight into the group

Track your brand’s reputation
This tip is regarding another brilliant LinkedIn application called Company Buzz. This application helps track what people are saying about you, your company or product via microblogging on Twitter. That’s not all. You can also see a time-varying trend to track information over time, and modify search queries to catch Twitter trends. To install this application go to http://dgit.in/185HpXz. Once added, you can type in search queries in the search toolbar, click on the “Follow Topic” tab that appears on the upper-left side of the page and view instant Twitter feeds.

Check out LinkedIn plug-ins
Developers at LinkedIn have come up with some really fancy applications and plug-ins to act as useful value additions. Go to https://developer.linkedin.com/plugins to see an array of plug-in options that you can install. Some of the cool member-based plug-ins let you embed a profile summary card on your personalised webpage or simply a neat LinkedIn logo that shows your profile summary card on hover.

Sync LinkedIn with Twitter
There are quite a few users who are very active in cyberspace including in the Twitter blogosphere and the LinkedIn network. If you’re one of them, you might want to share your LinkedIn status updates on your Twitter profile. To do this, simply post the update in the update box and click on the ‘Share With’ box below. Choose ‘Public + Twitter’ from the dropdown menu and press Share to post the update simultaneously on your LinkedIn
and Twitter profile.

How to hack and modify your (old) mobilephone

Stuck with an old smartphone that you just can't throw away? With nothing to lose, and no warranty, why not hack it? Here's how.
How to hack and modify your (old) mobilephone
There’s no denying the fact that we’re seeing explosive growth in smartphones both, in terms of  features and specifications. As cliched as it may sound, it’s the absolute truth. Heck, we even have a satellite powered by an Android smartphone (Google Nexus One) orbiting around the earth which in fact was launched by our very own ISRO (Read more about it here: http://goo.gl/pSVGl). The crux of the matter is that we have a lot of computing power in our palms but it goes largely untapped due to the restrictions placed by the device manufacturers, carriers and the stock versions of the operating systems.
And if you were too afraid to hack your smartphone when it was under warranty, what's stopping you now from trying your hand if you've an 'old' smartphone lying around to play with? With nothing to lose, and no warranty, why not hack it? Here's how.
The methods discussed in the following pages will not only help you extract maximum performance and unlock advanced features on your latest smartphone but also help resuscitate older devices making them more usable. In this section of Tips & Tricks, we’ll cover all the dominant mobile platforms in the market, detailing how to jailbreak/root the devices on which they run. The hacks mentioned here will allow you to sideload, i.e. install third-party apps on your device, install a custom/modified ROM and give super-user access to the system which will enable you to tweak the innards of the device.

Jailbreaking/rooting your phone is not illegal as long as it is limited to non-copyright infringement purposes, but jailbreaking/rooting your phone will void your device’s manufacturer warranty so proceed with extreme caution.
Before trying out any method mentioned in these pages, make sure that you take a full backup of your phone data using the method(s) mentioned for each OS. Please follow all the instructions provided here or the guides to which links are provided for a particular model or device to a tee. Not doing so can lead to extremely dire consequences.

Android
Android is much more relaxed as compared to other platforms when it comes to allowing the user to install third-party apps which is perhaps the main reason for rooting/jailbreaking other mobile platforms. Rooting is the first step in extending the functionality that your phone has to offer – wireless tethering for older phones, custom ROMs, CPU overclocking and so on. Rooting in Android is very much akin to running a program as an administrator in Windows or running a program with the sudo command in *nix systems.

Back up your phone:
All your contacts, mail, calendar and other Google account specific data will already be in sync with Google’s servers, so you need not worry about that. As far as the system data, apps and app data is concerned there are two ways to go about backing them up – using either the Titanium Backup app, available in the Google Play Store or ADB (Android Debug Bridge), a command-line utility included with Google’s Android SDK. The problem with the first tool is that your phone needs to be rooted to use Titanium Backup as it requires root permissions, and brings into existence the classic chicken and egg problem. Titanium Backup is useful on rooted phones that you plan on installing a custom ROM on. You’d want to make sure that all your installed applications, settings and the original firmware are available to you in case you run into any problems. Another advice here is to go for a Nandroid backup provided by the Clockwork Recovery Mod or your own custom ROM which saves an entire image of the device to the disk for future use.
For Android 4.0 and later, you can use the ADB backup. Just download Holo Backup, a GUI wrapper for conducting the backup, from its homepage at http://goo.gl/Ya4sL Once you get the app running , hit “Backup all without system apps” and you’re set. Since this functionality doesn’t exist for Android 2.3 or lower, your best bet is to use an application like MyBackup Pro to back up your other data to the SD card or online and ASTRO File Manager to copy your application APKs to a safe location.

Root your phone:
The complication for Android is that there are a large variety of phones available in the market today. Now, while some methods do work for a very large cross-section of handsets, there’s no universal one-size-fits-all rooting solution for every phone out there.
We’ll start with the one tool that’s able to root a lot of models, especially the older ones – it’s called SuperOneClick. The catch is that it may or may not work for your phone, so you’ll have to dig a little deeper for another tool, especially for older phones as they have their own little quirks.
Download SuperOneClick from http://goo.gl/QMOIZ and extract the downloaded zip file. On your phone make sure that USB Debugging is enabled under settings and then connect the phone to your PC. The next step is very important: make sure your SD card is not mounted before proceeding. Once your phone is detected by SuperOneClick, click on “Root” to begin the rooting process and wait for it to complete. That’s it! Once the process completes, your phone will be rooted and you can then proceed to the post-rooting section of this guide. In case you face any problem, search the SuperOneClick support thread on XDA Developers at http://goo.gl/tzReR for others with the same problems as you.

This app is known not to work with the following phones. You can use unrevoked.com instead to circumvent the NAND lock used by these phone.
Sprint HTC EVO 4G (Supersonic)
HTC Droid Incredible
HTC Desire GSM
HTC Desire CDMA (BravoC)
HTC Aria
Droid Eris (HTC DesireC)
HTC Wildfire (HTC Buzz)
One thing to note here is that there may be other methods as well by which you can root your phone. You’ll have to find the one that suits you the best. For example, all phones from HTC released in and after 2011 are allowed by HTC itself to unlock their bootloader (http://goo.gl/YyWIu). The only step you need to perform after this is flashing a custom ROM to your device to get the root access. Now other methods may exist which may do this for your phone in one click, it’s entirely up to your discretion to select the method that you’re comfortable with.
Some of the latest phones have different exploits and one-click root tools specifically made for them. They’re listed in the table below along with links for the respective phone’s guide.
You’ll find that nearly all links point to XDA Forums. It is infact the mecca of smartphone hacking, rooting and development. Nearly all the developers congregate and collaborate here, making rooting toolkits and apps possible. Whenever in doubt just head over to XDA Developers forums. You’ll find that someone usually has had the exact same problem as you, and in all probabilities you’ll find an excellent solution here.

Things you can do post rooting:
Once you’ve rooted your phone, it will open up a host of hidden features on your phone. For starters, you’ll be able to flash custom ROMs such as ParanoidAndroid, LiquidSmooth, Android Open Kang Project, Cyanogenmod 10 and Xylon to name a few. You’ll find many threads online which deal with installing/flashing these ROMs on your phone after rooting. You’ll also be able to install applications which need root access such as Titanium Explorer, ES File Explorer, ROM Manager, CPU Master for overclocking and so on. There’s this excellent thread at Stack Exchange (http://goo.gl/8h0Rm) that will blow you away with the possibilities post rooting of your phone.

iOS
Hacking your iOS device, on the other hand, is called jailbreaking. In an ecosystem which is under tight control by the iron-fists of the Cupertino-based giant, jailbreaking allows the user to install a modified operating system by unlocking the bootloader, sideloading third-party apps apart from those from the App Store and provide root permissions to the user.

Back up your phone:
Backing up your iPhone is quite straightforward. You could either have your phone synced with iCloud or just manually create a backup from iTunes by right-clicking on your phone icon and clicking on “backup”. An advantage of doing it this way is that you can restore it much faster. If you’re upgrading from a jailbroken phone, make sure that you back up your Cydia apps separately so that they can be easily restored after you’ve upgraded and jailbroken your phone.
You can back up your Cydia apps by downloading OpenBackup from Cydia’s official repositories. The app is quite easy to operate: simply open the app and hit the Backup button; this backs up your Cydia data to either iCloud or iTunes. You also get a local copy if you want to manually save the backup file to your computer’s hard drive. You’ll find the backup file at private/var/mobile/Library/Preferences/OpenBackupFiles, and can use iFunBox to copy the files to your hard drive.

Root your phone:
As opposed to Android, not many methods are available for cracking your iPhone (infact this works for any iDevice, but we’ll be limiting our discussion to the iPhones here). The table below details the various methods available for the different versions of the phone at different operating system versions.
The highlighted jailbreaks are tethered jailbreaks, i.e. you need to plug in the phone at every restart so that the jailbreak can be loaded; this patches the kernel in real time. This might sound quite cumbersome but it’s the only way to go about doing it for the older versions of the operating systems. If you update your phone now, you’ll be updated to iOS 6.1.3 and you won’t be able to downgrade to 6.1.2 or lower so if you’ve not updated your phone you’re still in luck, as you’ll still be able to use evasi0n or the respective jailbreaking tool for your version of operating system. The evad3rs team is hard at work at bringing out a jailbreak for iOS 6.1.3. Follow them on Twitter (@evad3rs) for latest updates.
These jailbreak tools are incredibly easy to operate. For e.g. consider evasi0n. Just grab the latest zip file from the tool’s download page and extract the file. Make sure that you remove the lock screen password before proceeding and avoid all iTunes related tasks when evasi0n is running. In case the process freezes at any time it’s safe to restart the program and reboot the device to try the process again. To jailbreak your device just run evasi0n and click on the jailbreak button for the process to begin. Your phone will restart a couple of times during the process, be patient. Eventually, the process will run its course and you’ll be able to tap on the exit button. The phone will restart and Voila! You’ve just jailbroken your iPhone.
Both the other apps function in a similar way. When in doubt, visit the forums on the respective app’s pages, and you’re bound to get help there. Make sure that you find the exact version of your firmware and use the recommended jailbreaking tool from the table above.

Access features post jailbreaking:
You’ll now have access to an amazing set of features which will let you modify the phone in some very interesting ways, the first of which being Cydia. This amazing little app will allow you to download a host of third-party apps hosted on both, Cydia’s own and other repositories. You’ll be able to personalize the menu and its appearance along with the background and lock screen images.

OpenBackup to back up your Cydia apps

Advance task switcher, mods which let you run tasks in the background, folder enhancer, SSH and GCC are just some of the apps which form the tip of the iceberg. You can find quite an interesting list of possibilities compiled by Big Boss over at http://goo.gl/KYhmY. It lists some of the app mentioned here and many more interesting ones which can be installed once you’ve jailbroken your phone.

UI Overhaul using WinterBoard

Windows Phone
Rooting a Windows Phone is comparatively trickier. There are three ways by which you can root/unlock Windows Phone: Developer Unlock, Interop Unlock and Full Unlock.

1. Developer Unlock: This allows you to sideload third-party apps on your phone. The number is restricted to 10 and you need to register yourself at App Hub at $99/year to unlock your phone. There’s also a student account which allows you to sideload up to three apps for free.
2. Interop Unlock: A new lock was introduced with the earlier builds of WP7 Mango which required apps to have this lock to be able to access device drivers and other restricted areas such as the registry, root access, the file system and so on. Called the Interop Unlock by its finder Heathcliff from the XDA Developer forums, this unlock used exploits to target the vulnerabilities in some of the manufacturer specific software to unlock the phone.
Full Unlock: As of now this is only possible for first generation HTC and Samsung phones. After unlocking the bootloaders and installing custom ROMs, you need to install Full Unlock packages which patches to remove the policy checks and gives you full access to the system. The problem here is that all apps then have full access to your system, even the bad ones.

Back up your phone :
There are two ways you can go about backing up data on your Windows Phone. You can either use the WP7 Easy Backup Tool or the WP7 Backup app. You can grab WP7 Easy Backup Tool at http://goo.gl/qM9bu. The process is quite straightforward and the app is laid out like a wizard to guide you through the backup process.
The app is a very clever piece of software and uses the Zune updater tool to back up your phone. This backup can be used by Zune to restore the device when you use the “Update” option under settings. This will save everything right from the application settings to your texts inside the update. One downside is that any file changes, updates or other user specific data won’t persist if they weren’t present at the time of the backup. Check out the apps’ XDA Developers thread here http://goo.gl/305YK for the download and exact deployment instructions.

WP7 Root Tools to tweak WP performance

Unlock/Root your phone:
Different brands, different OEMs and different versions will have their own unlocking method(s). We’ve compiled a list of brands and devices which can be unlocked in the table below. One important thing to note here is that Windows Phone 8 users won’t be able to unlock their phones as there are no unlocks available which allow you to root your phone.

Use WP7 Easy Backup to save all your files on your PC hard-drive

Another possible method is Policy Unlock. Once you manage to get an Interop Unlock activated on your phone you can sideload WP7 Root Tools into your phone and then use the bundled exploits to attempt a full unlock of the phone. You can grab the latest copy of WP7 Root Tools from http://goo.gl/OYwTj You’ll also need the Windows Phone SDK to deploy the app file (.xap) to the phone. You’ll find the deployment program at the location C:Program Files (x86)Microsoft SDKsWindows Phonev8.0ToolsXAP Deployment. You can either use this or XAPDeployX which can be downloaded from its XDA Developers thread here http://goo.gl/bvhCb. Note that this will only work once you’ve interop-unlocked the phone or on the 1st generation Windows phones with Developer Unlock.

Things you can do post unlock/rooting:
A host of brilliant applications are made available once you’ve unlocked your phone, starting with Jaxbot’s WPH Tweaks, which enables you to carry out a smorgasbord of much needed tweaks to the OS. Other applications include the installation of new themes, dynamic backgrounds, lock screen widgets, orientation lock, file explorer, screen capture, certificate installer and much more.

How to improve productivity using free software tools

Reach new heights of productively using your time with these apps, tips and services
How to improve productivity using free software tools
Too many distractions can bring down your productivity, but so can boredom, a whole pile of brainless and repetitive tasks and so on and so forth. Here we’ve compiled a list of apps and Chrome extensions that can help streamline your work as well as take care of those “pesky” distractions.
Managing desktops
Anyone who has used an OS like Ubuntu or OS X will be familiar with the concept of a virtual desktop and how convenient it can be. Windows users need not fret however. Download mdesktop from http://dgit.in/ULOQKW
mdesktop is a tiny little app that, once installed, will allow you to manage up to 10 desktops at a time.

mdesktop settings

By default you will be given 4 virtual desktops to work in and you can switch between them using the ALT+(number) keys; very handy and perfect for managing your work (or ensuring a quick and easy escape route in case your boss happens to come around).

Chrome plug-ins
Google Chrome is now the most popular browser in the world and chances are, most of your work revolves around using this browser and many of Googe’s myriad services.

Any.do
This is a free app that is available on iOS, Android and as a plug-in to Chrome. All you need to do is download it and set it up and it will sync tasks across all your devices. It can sync with Gmail, remind you to call someone back, send a mail and much more.
The app will add a bar below your mail (with options for setting reminders) and a “remind me” button near the header to allow you to manage your mail. This is a must-have app/extension for the scatter-brained among us

AnyDO-Gestures

Split-Screen
Available at http://dgit.in/SEmypx, split screen does exactly what the name suggests. It creates a new chrome tab that will let you browse two different sites at once.

 split-screen in action

If 40 open tabs weren’t enough, you can now literally double the number of sites you view simultaneously. Just imagine a boring spreadsheet on one page, YouTube on the other. Work and play at the same time, what more could you ask for?

Quotes Book
Running out of quotes for that epic speech you’re preparing? This is the app for you. This Chrome App is nothing more than a veritable quotencyclopedia; allowing you to search and pick the ideal quote. Download the app at http://dgit.in/VLv5lH

QuotesBook

Save to Google Drive
This is one of the most useful productivity enhancing apps that we’ve come across. Its working is very similar to other site/article archiving utilities like Evernote but with a twist. Just install the plug-in from http://dgit.in/ZcCTon and hit the button. The extension will scroll through the entire webpage that you are viewing and take snapshots, compiling them into one large image that will be saved to your Google drive.

Tab.bz
Not closing your browser because there are too many tabs open and you don’t know which ones you want? Want to save a collection of articles for later use? Tab.bz is the ideal tool for you. This handy extension (http://dgit.in/VLw1GH) will package all your open tabs into one link that you can share, save or do whatever you want with. There are privacy issues though, where if you accidentally create a tab package with some private tabs, the link is not immediately deleted; so use with caution.

StayFocusd
This extension’s sole purpose is to make sure that you’re actually working at your PC. You can download the plugin at http://dgit.in/Rzw0dB. After installation, you will need to setup the plugin. There are a myriad of settings to choose from and they are surprisingly comprehensive. Some of the functions of this plugin are as follows:
Set a blacklist and whitelist from the sites you regularly visit.

Allot a fixed amount of time in total for your blacklisted sites, access to which will be blocked once your allotted time has expired.

A nuclear mode that will block all sites permanently till the timer is reset for the next day.

 Nuclear response

A complicated puzzle needs to be solved to change the settings, making it more of a hassle if you want to sneak in some extra time behind the program’s back.

Hitting the “StayFocusd” button in your Chrome browser will automatically add that site to the blacklist.

The plugin will warn you when you are AFK for more than a set period of time.

How to expand your Steam experience

How to get past the basics of Steam
Here are the basics from Digit's own ‘The Zen Guide to Steaming’. Aside from what third party sources have to offer, Steam has some built-in features to make your gaming lives convenient. Here are a few:
Backup your games: Despite the convenience of downloadable games, it’s always more comforting to have a DVD or some kind of physical avatar of your games in case of a system breakdown. Unlike certain other game distributors, backing up the game files of Steam is an easy process. In your client, go to Steam>Backup and Restore Games>Backup currently installed programs, and let the Steam client do its thing. Follow the same steps to restore said backups when needed. Simple, convenient, easy as pie. Remember, however, in case of a game update, you may need to create a new backup after deleting the old one, unless you intend to re-download from when you took your last backup.
To bypass this step entirely, there is the easier method of entering C:/Program Files (x86)/Steam/SteamApps/Common (replace the path with wherever you’ve installed Steam) and copying the game files directly. Any issues with missing files or file corruption during the transfer will be fixed by Steam when you replace these files into the same path later.
Verify the integrity of the game cache: Sometimes your games may crash regularly, or at a particular point in the game, or maybe even refuse to start up. Don’t freak out. It’s possible that your files have gotten corrupt, or even missing because you unintentionally deleted it. Simply right-click on the game in your steam library, select Properties and enter the Local Files tab. The Verify the integrity of the game cache button will fix most of these problems for you. Steam will recheck the files on your PC, and delete/re-download the problematic files.

Enhanced Steam Settings UI
How to Outfox your Steam
If you’re a Firefox fanboy and are a regular on Steam, look out for the Enhanced Steam add-on. The personalization options help add a little more to your Steam browser experience. You can change the tab colours of the website UI to change colours as per what you’ve already purchased, what’s on your wishlist, and so on. Enhanced Steam also gives you the option to remove that annoying  button that crops up at the top of your webpage, along with options to remove some of the other irritating aspects of the Steam page.
Getting it is a minute’s job. Simply go to http://dgit.in/enSteam and click on Download now. The only downside to this add-on is that it’s meant specifically for Firefox, so Chrome and Safari users are out of luck.

How to move your Steam files around
Yes, Steam has a backup option, but in situations when you want to change the location of all your Steam install files from one partition to the other, you need something like Steam Mover. Steam mover is a third party software. This software makes it much easier for you to transfer your entire Steam Library exactly the way it is from one location to the other. It creates junction points at the primary location to your selected secondary location. The biggest advantage of Steam Mover is that you can store copies of all your steam games on multiple drives without it hindering your ability to game on. Steam Mover makes it unnecessary to uninstalling and reinstalling to make a sufficient amount of space on your primary drive to install that new 20GB game you want to play.
The install file for the Steam Mover is easily available on http://dgit.in/st3amvr. The recommended instructions by the creator of the software can be found on http://dgit.in/1p0BWcL if you want to go through the process manually, using the command prompt.
How to release some of the pressure
With Steam’s default sorting system, it’s possible that those suffering from OCD may have an itch to sort games in the way they see fit. It’s a personalization feature that Valve should consider incorporating in their client in future updates.
However, until then, there is always the Depressurizer.
Depressurizer is a lightweight software that lets you organize the subheads in your Steam client to your own personal specifications. Download Depressurizer v0.4.4 from http://dgit.in/depr3ss. Post install, run the .exe file and input the default location of your Steam library. Depressurizer proceeds to pull out your game list. It then gives you the option to either reorganize the categories according to what you want them to appear or source the assigned game genres from Steam and organize them according to that. As the image shows, it does it quite well, overall. Some micromanagement may be required, but it still leaves you with a much better-organized Steam library than the default interface.

Steam Depressurizer

How to clean up your Steam files

Steam may be convenient, but it does tend to use up a lot of hard drive space with temporary files and unnecessary duplicate installer files. Tiki One Steam Cleaner is free tool that will scan your Steam folder for these files and give you an easily accessible way of removing them, letting you free up at least a gigabyte of space (on account of these files being around 90MB per game).
Tiki One is available at http://dgit.in/t1k1one.
It’s a good software that can keep things organised but there’s a catch. If you need to run the “verify game cache” option for the game (as mentioned above) or even if the game updates very regularly, the Steam client will register these files as ‘missing’ and re-download them.
How to back up your saved game backups
Yes, Steam has cloud synchronization, but those who’ve been gaming for years have to agree, there’s nothing more self-scalping than losing saved games. Saved games are possibly more important than game backups. Backups can be re-downloaded in a matter of hours, but catching up to a game could take days, even weeks.
So once again, for those who prefer the safety net of localized backed up content, there is a way to save your game saves on a local storage device.
SaveGameBackup (the programmer earns no points for creativity) is an application that can be used to conveniently backup and restore not just your Steam saved games, but also the saved game files of any game installed on your system. Download the setup from http://dgit.in/sgbckup and follow the instructions.
How to gauge your Steam standing and deal with bundles
Steam Gauge is an interesting website that compiles the basic stats of your Steam usage like Hours played, games owned and the total worth of your entire library. This is very effective for people who suffer from digital shopaholism. If required, take a screenshot and save it as your wallpaper to constantly remind you to stop spending money on games.

Is there any deal?
Or simply revert to online game bundles.
Yes, there are cheaper ways to obtain original Steam games outside the Steam seasonal sales.
Most of you have already probably figured that out, by now. But for the naive – wake up and smell the scent of cheaply obtained original games!
Humble Bundle and Bundle Stars are two such websites you can visit. Keep a tab on websites like Is there any deal? which keep tabs on the gaming websites and bundle sites that support Steam-based games and post about deals consistently.
‘Is there any deal’ goes to the extent of syncing with your Steam account and informs you when there’s a game on your wishlist up for sale (along with the all-time lowest rates, so that you know how good the deal actually is).
Keep the above little tricks in mind on the road to becoming a Steam Jedi. May the vaporous Force be with you, young Padawan.
