Healthy Lunch Ideas
Do you feel that you lack imagination
when it comes to healthy lunch ideas? Do you feel that your packed lunch
is uninspiring and
because of this, not very enjoyable? Are you getting sick and tired of
the same packed lunch day after day?…… If you have answered yes to any
of the above questions then I can only suggest that you may well want
some help in looking for some alternative lunch suggestions that are not
only nutritious but also look appetizing.
So where do we start?
Firstly it might be an idea to recognise
the importance a good lunch plays in the grand scheme of things. For
example just imagine the scenario… you get up late for work for the
second time this week and its only Tuesday. So what’s the first thing
you do… skip breakfast. You don’t have time to make yourself any lunch
and by 11 am you are pretty hungry so you go for a quick fix solution
that will solve your immediate hunger pangs, which in this case is
chocolate bars and potato chips. Or alternatively, if you are fortunate
enough to escape the office for a few minutes, then you might be able to
grab a calorie laden sandwich from the local deli across the road. Now
this may solve the immediate problem but by 3 pm you are lacking in
energy and just can’t wait to get home to put your feet up and reflect
on the busy day you have just had.
Okay, now look at another scenario… your
alarm goes off and you get up in plenty of time to have a good
breakfast. You don’t have to worry about your lunch because you have
made it the night before. Around 11 am you feel a little hungry so you
reach into your snack box and grab a cereal bar. This keeps you going
until lunchtime, when you tuck into a healthy pre made lunch. You find
that you are revitalized and full of energy and are ready to tackle the
rest of the day. You arrive home feeling good about how the day has
gone.
The bottom line is to never under estimate the place a healthy lunch has in your daily routine
Now, there is nothing worse than opening
up your snack box to reveal half a carrot, a stick of celery and a
lettuce leaf while your colleague is tucking into a juicy steak sandwich
from the deli across the road. I mean, healthy it may be, but I know
which one I’d rather be eating! So the idea is to make your snacks
healthy but at the same time appetising. So with this in mind, here are
some snack ideas that will make your lunch box the envy of the office.
Salads – Salads are a great healthy
lunch option. They are not only tasty but incredibly versatile. Don’t
think of salads just with lettuce, you can be as adventurous as you
like. Couscous, quinoa or pasta are great bases for salads and you can
add things like pulses, nuts, dried fruit and chicken. Or alternatively
why not make a big bowl of fresh fruit salad.
Spring
rolls – I don’t mean the fried kind, Instead I am talking about the
ones made with spring roll rice wrappers. Again you can be really
creative with these. You can add things like avocado, sliced duck,
prawns, griddled peppers. In fact whatever takes your fancy. They are
quick and easy to make and will keep in the fridge overnight.
Wraps – These are a great way of
combining healthy ingredients and like spring rolls, there is no limits
to what you can put into one. How about some low fat soft cheese
together with some smoked flaked fish such as trout. Combine this with
crisp bean shoots and some crunchy salad leaves and it is a match made
in heaven
Here are 3 great lunch suggestions that
will not only keep you going all day and give you plenty of energy, but
will keep you away from chocolate bars and cookies. So if you are
looking for healthy lunch ideas then use the above as a base and let
your imagination run wild.
